Different Parts of Combine Harvesters and Their Importance

A combine harvester is a machine designed to harvest different grain crops effectively. It derives the name from its four different harvesting operations combined into one process- reaping, threshing, gathering, and winnowing.

Combine harvesters are the most economical labor-saving inventions. It effectively reduces the amount of population engaged with agriculture. In this article, you will learn about the parts of the combine harvester and its functions.

What are the Important Parts of Combine Harvesters?

A combine begins with the headers and finishes at a planter. There are 21 different parts in a combine harvester. However, there are six parts functioning autonomously to ensure the machine runs smoothly. These are,

• Header

• Thresher

• Feeder builder

• Separator

• Straw chopper

• Cleaning fan

Now let's look at how each part functions for agriculture.

1. Header or the Cutting and Gathering Unit: This part cuts and gathers crops and feeds the threshing part.

2. Feeder Builder: It uses the slat and chain type of Feeder Builder to receive the harvested crop from the cross auger and then send it off to the threshing unit.

3. Thresher: The grain threshing uses the threshing cylinder and the concave.

4. Separating Unit: The function of separating the grain from the crop starts at the concave. It then falls directly through the concave. It then feeds the rest of the straw and the grains to the straw walker.

5. Straw: The straw chopper is mainly for chopping the straw separated when the grain is finally separated.

6. Cleaning Fan: The cleaning unit of the harvester has a blower and two sieves. These sieves oscillate, and the blower winnows the chaff and the grain. Ultimately, clean grain gets delivered to the auger. After that, from the elevator, clean grain moves over to the handling unit. The blown grain passes on to the tailing auger and reaches the tailing discharge to the cylinder elevator.

The process starts with the header's platform and then moves on to the different parts of the combine.

Why Maintain Your Combine Harvester?

When you have a well-maintained and clean harvester, working with full efficiency will provide optimum harvest quality. You must use good quality parts that will help in keeping your machine in the right shape.

You will come across a wide range of wear parts of a combine harvester, starting from multi-brand to standard. There are also counterfeit parts in the market that may or may not work with the combine harvester you have. Hence, when you are shopping for the aftermarket combine parts, be wise.

Maintaining the combine harvests and its parts is necessary to ensure that it is in good working condition. Do inspection and service checks on the combine regularly and adjust the combine harvester as per the field's conditions.

Introducing the combine harvester has revolutionized the world of farming. It is a versatile machine that has made harvesting effortless. One should consider the latest technology when it is about producing quality crops, and this is one such technology that you should use.
